I have been reading some old threads, and doing some light googling. Seems the 930 Super is sized to match a 288, but not the same? Some places say they list a P+C but don’t seem to be specific when you look harder. What should I be looking for?
This is the saw my dad bought new around 1990 to replace his 042 when it had a failure. It was being run on our double bar along with my 385xp. It was a family friend and as best we can guess it ran out of gas and the 385 didn’t, so it got dragged along for some amount of time. I have this box of parts, my friend who was using it was all set to repair it for us as he felt bad, at the time I said it’s a 30 year old saw, don’t worry about it. But now I would kind of like to revive it. I am missing the air filter and the P+C. Its dirty down in there and I did not move it much but I would have said the crank is smooth and not loose. What should I expect for a case gasket if I strip it fully? What other unobtanium should I be extra careful of and or looking for? If I get it going and I am happy, it might just live on the mill, I never really liked it much, but I am sentimental.
I know someone is going to lecture me about loaning chainsaws, I would loan this guy my left arm if he needed it, I don’t blame him a bit.
Attached are bad pictures of my box-O parts, i am looking to collect some parts and whatever manuals I can, I won’t get to it until after new years.

You're going to have a tough time finding anything for that saw other minor parts like seals. Only the 930 used that top end. A 920 top end may work (never tried) but it will noticeably less of a saw. An 830 shares most everything except the top end but is no easier to find.

Parts for these were sketchy all around when I started collecting 20 years ago.

Almost nothing on 281/288 is compatible with the 930. The series is 820/830/920/930 and they are a Jonsered unique design. As Chris mentioned, the 930 top end was particular to the 930. Top ends for the other saws will work but will not make as much power. Case gaskets are extremely hard to find - you might be best off making one. I've only seen new case gaskets pop up on eBay twice in the last 25 years and they sell out immediately. That being said, there are dealers/former dealers out there with new old stock parts in their attics - it's just a matter of finding them. I'm betting a member here can get you into a used cylinder and then you try one of the aftermarket pistons that are available.

Meteor gets talked about as being better than average, I would normally avoid aftermarket anything, but that most likely isn’t an option, any suggestions?

Put a want ad in the trading post for 920/930 parts and it might take a while, but I'll bet something pops up.

I don't have any of the parts you need, but I'd like to say that I admire your loyalty to your friend and your priorities. Don't change.
