Greetings. I decided to take the plunge, & try to get this old saw put together & running. From what I've read here parts are rare, & I'm going to email George Blake at [email protected]. I also thought that it would be helpful to ask here. Any advice, opinions, parts for sale, etc. will be appreciated.

A parts list would be immensely helpful. The missing parts that I know of are: Handguards (front/top, & lower/rear), bar plate nuts (available at hardware store?), & the guts for the chain tensioner. There's a damaged & missing metal piece above the muffler, but I'm not sure what to call it. I can try a photo when my better half gets home with the dig cam.

I've done some checking at CSCC. Is the 90 identical to the 801 except for cylinder bore, carb, & starter cover? Are a lot of the parts compatible? Not that I have a spare 801 laying around.

Thanks for your attention.

Jonsered sometimes refers people to George! If he doesn't have it or can't find it, it can't be had! Geroge was instrumental in reviving a few of my Jonsereds.

Chris- you're pretty much right on the money on the compatibility,
although some 801s had a different ignition system that used an inboard stator instead of the outboard style of the 90. The electronics housing is slightly different as well. Both can be adjusted to suit either however, if you have to graft parts from one to work with the other.

The 801 also has a different isolation block for the carburetor, a different carb, a different throttle linkage, and a different worm gear for the oiler.

Thanks, Sedanman & Jacob

I was following the earlier thread re the 801, & I emailed George (Mr. Blake to me since I don't 'know' him) this morning. I notice that the magneto is bolted in behind the flywheel, & that someone soldered the wire at about the halfway point rather than try to replace it. Any potential problems with that? Maybe wrap the repair in several layers electrical tape & hope for the best? I know from reading here that removing the flywheel can be tricky even for a skilled mechanic/technician with the right tools. I've got some more cleaning up to do before I reassemble the saw & try to get it running. Most of the advice here favors doing a carb rebuild on older saws-any thoughts on that? Any & all in-put is appreciated.

Thanks again, Chris Jones

Jonsered 90 (parts?) saw has arrived.

Seems to be mostly complete. The couple of things that I see missing--spark plug cover & 1 short hex bolt--are no big deal. I'll know more when I get it home & have a chance to remove some covers, etc. Saw is, of course, dirty. It was packed like the seller was shipping nitroglycerin (sp).

They sprayed it lightly with vinegar; I'm guessing to cut down on the gas & oil smell. Has anyone experienced that before? Tried it when shipping a saw? An interesting idea to say the least.
