I'm buying a new saw soon and I'd like to get some feedback on these two types of chain saws. The saw will be used for cutting firewood(app. 10cord/yr). Anybody have some suggestions. I've been told these 2 saws are much the same. Looking at something in the 40-55cc range. :msp_thumbsup:

if i were you i would consider a stihl ms290. my friend just picked one up and it is impressive with a 3/8 chain and an 18 inch bar. my opinion is husky only makes big saws the small ones never really impressed me. but thats just my opinion good luck

A Husky 346 or my fav. a Jonsered 2153:rock: but I just like red and black rather than orange!!!

You won't go wrong with either brand . They are pretty much the same just different colors and handle bar angle . I have a couple Husky dealers close buy . One has the new 555 and 562 on the shelf and the other still has the 357 and 359 . I wonder if there are any deals to be found on the new but discontinued saws . I have Huskys , Jonsereds and Stihls and like them all . But I find the Jonsered the nicest looking . It's been said a hundred times but the dealer means alot . Go with the dealer you like the best .

Yes, they are the same.

I like Jonsered because the handle is easier on my wrist and it is a favorite in this little corner of the world so lots of good dealers to pick from. Figure out what you want to spend and find a good dealer.

Jonsered and Husky are pretty much the same.

If I was going to buy another Husky, I'll probably go with the Jonsered model instead. Only because it looks more sexy :msp_tongue:

Sure, as Husky owns the Jonsered brand, and makes all the better models, based on a Husky model. Plastic covers, color and handlebar angle mostly is all the difference.

Definitely the Jonsered. Too bad you can't get these anymore.

Mmmmmmm oranges

Hey cb, I'll give you 50 bucks to take that obsolete model off your hands. They're pretty heavy, and you could put the $$ toward a new one.

And I got 75 here in southwest MO!!! Do I hear a hundred???!!!

Just go with whatever Best fits your needs and has best dealer support. And you will be happy. They are all good saws and will last a lifetime and then some if well taken care of. Be sure to only use good quality synthetic oil mix. And stay clear of mix you can get at the gas station. Use only good quality gas and try to stay away from ethanol as much as possible at atleast 89 octane.

Hi Dean:

Any Jonsered or Husky (or any other brand for that matter) will easily fulfill your requirements. If you're cutting only 10 cords a year, you really don't "need" a pro saw. But if you just "want" a pro saw, then go for it. "Any" saw can handle 10 cords a year. There are lots of really nice saws from various manufactures in the cc range you're looking at. I have a new Stihl MS290 Farm Boss (56.5 CC, 13 lbs, 3.8 HP, $350). The 290 is Stihl's biggest bang for the buck. It ain't high tech. It uses old tried and true technology. It's a good quality saw and reliable as dirt. With proper care and maintenance, it will last for many, many years. The cheapest Stihl "Pro" saw is the MS 261 and it's $200 more than the 290. I to cut only 10 cords a year and I couldn't justify that additional $200. Their MS250 (45.4 CC, 10.1 lbs, 3 HP, $299) is another good saw. Stihl sells more 250's and 290's then all of their other models combined. There are quite literally hundreds of thousands of them in use.

You really can't go wrong as just about "any" new saw you buy these days is gonna be a darn nice saw! So just decide how much ya wanna spend, and go for it ! I prefer a 16" bar (less reciprocating chain mass) to better optimize the saw's horse power. But that's just me.

The best advice I can give ya is to visit a whole bunch of chain saw dealers (regardless of brand) and determine which one seems the friendliest and most knowledgeable. Once ya decide on which saw ya want, ask the dealer to throw in a spare chain at no charge.
He should tune yur new saw, demo its operation, insist that ya read the operators manual "TWICE", and he should adjust the carb after a few hours of use.

You're in a delima we all envy; Deciding which new saw to buy.

Above all, stay safe.
