What is your preferred format for viewing pictures?

Jpegs and bitmaps both work well on my computers. The ones that my computer has a hard time with are the files ending in .jps:D

.jpg's are alot smaller than .bmp images.

And of course, .bmp's are smaller than .jps's.....;)

.jpg and the even smaller .gif are made for internet stuff etc. due to size, at a loss of some quality, espc in .gif's

Gif's are so much smaller that as one goes to like the animated avatars etc. where there area a series of pix in one file to be viewed, they are generally gif files.

Most picture/drawing software should be able to halndle convert all anymore. Even generic MSPaint can be upgraded to do so (generally). Why would any one want to pick on poor JP ?

Thanx for changing the avatar Erik, though someone around home here liked it!

I perfer .jpg. It is smaller, so it loads faster, and is friendlier to more computers than .bmp. My PCs don't care, but I know that some are picky.

Don't thank me yet... you haven't seen my new one. I'm animating it now, should be about as ANTI-PC as possible.

Ken, I thought you LIKED the little red spermie-dude?:D

Kenny found it distracting.

Maybe Kenny's next one should be his alter ego picking up a helium balloon and floating away?

BTW, my browser does not like .bmp for some reason.

Bitmaps are simply a "map" of the "bits" in the image. Because the color information of every pixel in the image is preserved, they can be quite large. JPEG's and GIFs are compression formats, where data is thrown out, reducing image quality slightly. JPEGs have an adjustable compression rate, which you can choose with imaging software.

I prefer .jpg The pics it turn out small. A maximum 100 - 300 kilobytes. Are loaded very quickly and easily. In other not compressed formats the pics can have volume 3 - 10 mbytes. Such photos are very long loaded (down to 1 minute). For us in Russia it represents some problem. We pay for the traffic 30 $ month. 20 - 30 pics and half of monthly norm - is spent. Some very large photos I have no an opportunity to look.

Alright, I will try to make a point to only use jpgs in the future. I guess we all will be doing the same?

Yup. Every pic I post starts out as a bitmap, but I take it to paint and change it to a JPEG so it will download faster
