hello,
im just getting into chainsawmilling , i will be running a 066. i would like to know what bar and chain i should use. i would like a 32" bar . also would i have to drill a hole in that to mount the alaskan sawmill?

Alaskan will typically take up 6" of the bar using the bar clamps, or 4" if you drill and bolt the bar to the Alaskan.

The main reason to drill and bolt the bar is to make it easier to swap chains.

So a 32" bar would give you 26" cut with the bar clamps or 28" cut without clamps.

I'd go 36". 0.050" gage. Any name brand bar will do.

What size Alaskan?
What size and type trees?
Your 066 w/ a muf mod should be good for a cut in the wood up to about 36".
I've had my 660's buried in red maple w/ a 42" bar while cutting out a red maple stump.
An unmodded 066 might not be able to do a 28" cut on some of those infamous rock hard trees in BobL's Australia.

If you have a 36" Alaskan and a 42" bar.
MK-III Mill with 36" rails gives a maximum cut of 32"
Minimum bar requirement to achieve maximum cut: 42"

If you are sure your MAX cut will be 26" or 28" then a 32" will do.

i will be mostly cutting ash, maple, and oak
i have a big bore kit in the 066. i was also thinking about doing the muf mod.
i want to get a big enough bar jsut in case i come across some big trees. for bucking or milling
my finaces are only letting me get an item at a time, i have the saw, next on my list is a bar and chain, then , i will get the mill.
