Good Evening Everyone:
First of all, thank-you everyone who has helped me out on this site, I love it. Second, I just wanted to vent for a moment about my local Stihl dealer. I have an 026 Pro, it had less than 50 hours on it, when I was deployed in 2002 my grandfather borrowed it for a week. He has a bunch of saws, and knows what he is doing. His son however, took it from him for a weekend, and burned up the piston with some straight gas.
My straight up Grandfather brought it to the Stihl dealer to get it looked at. Now as I said, he has a lot of chainsaws, and was the director of outdoor maintanence for a large company for years and knows the dealer well. The guy took the saw, and said he would call my Grandfather with an idea of the cost.
The next day he called and said that the piston had a hole in it, and wasn't worth fixing. My grandfather went and picked up the saw in a box and brought it home. It sat in his basement until I was discharged. When I went down to look at it and think of a rebuild, I noticed that it was missing two things. The muffler and the carb cover. It seemed strange to me, but when I mentioned it to my father (an agronomist) he wasn't suprised and said that because he is an older guy, who doesn't know any better, they weren't expecting him to come back and take the saw.
The saw needed a piston, and I did it quickly without trouble. Especially because it only had about 50 hours on it. The saw cuts great now, I got a parts saw for about $30 and took the muffler and assorted other screws along the way.
I now drive past this dealer to the next town and he does great service, and wouldn't mess with me or my grandfather. I know he knows that I am getting into silviculture/forestry with time and looks at me as a long term customer. It's just a shame that the other dealer took advantage of my 80 year old grandfather.
Thanks for listening AS, you guys are great. By the way, I don't really like Ebay too much, does anyone know where I can find a used carb cover for an 026 PRO without having to use Ebay? Just wondering, I'll make something work in the mean time.
