Someone mentioned this in an earlier thread but why is it that doing favors always cost you.

Just cleaning up some limbs and branches from a tree I dropped for a neighbor. It was a maple suffering from severe root failure that would have fallen on my house. I took all the wood for my stove since it was already in the yard anyways.

But here is the catch, I take my truck into the woods were I had put all the brush . spin around in my little turn around to set the chipper were I want it. Chip it all up and go to pull out get hung up on an old log under some leaves. I then do the obvious thing, put in 4x4 and punch the cummins a little... up and over we go. pull the rest of the way out of the woods. I now stop to finish up some branches I had pruned off an oak in my yard.

See something hanging from my truck. Its the plug for my curtis plow.

Open the hood to find out not only had I pulled it loose but I also ripped the harness in half on one side. All 8 wires separated at the splice. Figure color coded no problem NOT... 6 match color for color 2 wires left on one side 1 wire left on the other all 3 are different colors so no idea were they went.

Next time I plan on doing someone a favor I am just gonna tell my wife to go spend $100 on anything, but kick me in the nuts before you leave. This way I can lose money and be miserable with out leaving the house.

In the end it was really my fault but, I guess this is one of those moments were they say the lord is testing your faith and I think I am passing. I would do it all over again and I will probably be cutting that neighbors lawn for him tomorrow just because that's the neighborly thing to do.

Yeh, it is rare to do manual labor that involves equipment etc etc and not have something break no matter how little or how big...something always seems to go wrong. Metal in a tree wipes our your new rslk, you rip the sidewall on your truck tire, scratch your bed, sprain your ankle....seems to be an endless array of possibilities with any line of work that would be discussed here on AS.

I on the other hand did a favor and just made 2,000 bucks. Yeah!

Some good deeds go unpunished...though not often enough.

But I'd look at it as at least you were close to home and not in the middle of working the plow when you learned this.

Now you can alter the situation so it doesn't happen again.

It's a blessing in disguise.

Its been on this truck for 5 years with no problems. All I had to do was stop when I felt it first hit the log and no problem. But no I had to be in a hurry and friggen punch it to go over the log. Well will not do that again. But you are right about one thing at least its not plowing season 20° and snowing.

Got most of the functions back re splicing it but still no lights and hydraulic foot not working

I recently did a days worth of storm cleanup for a friend and just charged him 100 bucks to cover fuel and saw oil.

At the end of the day there was a partially uprooted stump that I figured I'd pull out with the jeep. Tugged on it a few times and got it up. The first tug was pretty hard as the roots still had a good hold. Thought nothing of it.

On the way home there was some snapping noises coming from the rear end. My detroit locker occasionally did this but much les noisy.

Got home, pulled the diff cover and metal shavings pour out in the oil. I had broken of soem of the spider gears in the locker. now I need a new locker, and rear end rebuild due to damage the broken stuff did to bearings and the pinion gear. 100 bucks pay and a 1100.00 repair bill. Life sux on those days.

A little known secret about me...I'm and off road enthusiast. I built a rather primitive trucky out of a ’78 chevy ¾ ton 4x4 with a 4 speed. I took it into the Badlands near Attica, IN.

I took many as wet log runs down in the creek bed. I even the one that most jeeps bypassed, and marched right on over it.

Making sure one has clearance is critical. Now that you know it is only your wiring that won’t make the trip you can reevaluate and reposition it.

A 4x4 with a Cummins ought to be fairly unstoppable, if anything should stop you, it should never be something as simple as wiring.

Not trying to be critical, just helpful.

Yeah truck was fine it was just my wiring harness and it ripped off the Neg terminal on one of the battery's so $75 for a new battery (needed new ones anyways they were old and now whatever it is gonna cost for my harness if I cant figure it out.

But it beats $1100 I guess.
