Since i started cutting firewood 3 years ago thats the only thing my saws have ever done, taking the next step in to milling soon. I was recently cutting some storm fallen cherrys(I think cherry at least) in to firewood when i noticed how awesome some of the grain was on these trees. Made my decision right there im gonna start milling, came home and ordered a small alaskan mill from baileys. I think im gonna try and make some benchs and tables out of the stuff since its pretty small.Heres a pic of one of the tree i got in to. Wish me luck

I bet that log will turn out awesome!!! You have to post some pics. when you mill it!!!

Excellent.... I am also wanting to get a mill. Not sure what size yet. I have been researching all the threads on milling. There are some very informative posts. I also might consider fabricating my own, but lots more research to do.
Congrats and have fun when it arrives.

That heart wood looks interesting, almost as if a 2nd pith on the right or somehow two trees that grew together. Anyone know why that is?

piece was cut just below a crotch, or if it was at the base its a secondary trunk. either way thats where you'll find some nice figure/grain patterns.
