Looks to be a Poulan 4000 series. The starter, handle, and green paint under the chainbrake give me some hints. Could you show some pics of the rear handle/fuel tank ass. Thank you sir.
It would have an automatic and manual booster oil pump

It's definitely a Poulan, 3400,3700,4000?
The solid air filter cover suggests to me that it probably a 3400.

Yeah, looks like a countervibe (Poulan 3400-4000) to me too. An excellent pro quality basic bucking saw that has both manual and automatic oilers. The 56 may refer to the displacement of the 3400 series, which are 56 cc saws. Different saws in the series can be distinguished by pulling their muffler and looking to see the number of rings and whether they are thick or thin. Also by whether the cylinder is bare metal or has a chrome plating.

It is definitely an antique saw and the drive gear is practically untouched, and there is generally no sign of excessive use

I watched the poulan 3400 56cc and it seems to be a good identification / interesting in which year it was produced because it already has a brake

I have two of the Popular 3400s. I love the saw, but with age the oiler diaphragms in both have failed. I don't have time right now for the rather involved fix, so they must sit on the shelf for the time being.
