Watch the sizes carefully, you might be able to buy a saddle that your kids can use while they grow. The NT saddles work well over a lot of waist sizes. You do want to be careful that you don't get a saddle that's too big to start. the only NT saddle that I have with side d-rings is my personal rec saddle. All others are plain.

For tiny climbers a full body is a good idea. Before my nieces grew into thier NT saddles my bro and I would put them in their body harnesses, slip into our shoulder harnesses and clip the girls to our chests. They loved it! Fun to be that close to them and they can still have pretty free movement.

I have a five year old who is starting to show an interest in climbing. I think it is a little early for him yet but its got me looking at whats available and planning ahead.

Do kids that young need a full body harness? I had seen something that suggested that with no hips to hang a saddle from, the body harness would be more secure. I don't expect him to invert and slip out, but I believe in preparing for everything.

When my girls were five and seven, I got them the Petzl Oustisti(that's probably spelled wrong). Its worked well for them, but its now time to upgrade to a larger size. Also, there are no accessory attachment points, so I had to improvise for the chainsaw lanyard.

the petzl oustisti is the way to go. my daughter has been in the tree since she was 3 years old, she loves it. its a very secure harness.

When my children where young my wife would say lift them into the tree. I said when they are big enough to climb up they are big enough to climb down. Then one day I looked out the window and found my 4 year old 15 ft up a maple tree. We decided to buy a childs size belt. Our first purchase was a childs rock belt. This was OK for about a year. I have two children age 9 and 10. They both have thier own New Tribe Childs size Ness saddles. In is an excellent belt for them until they get big enough to get into a full size adult belt. They each have thier own saddle, ropes, slit tails, prussics, biners, snaps, etc. It stays with my gear so it is a family sport. The tandem pully for zip lines is worth it for the kids. We set up an eighty ft. zip in the back yard. I use a tag line to regulate thier speed and can pull them back up for the next run. With two belts and the speed line the birthday partys at our house are a huge success.
