A friend needs small tree cut down, by the looks of these leafs....can anyone tell what it might be ?

there are some berrys or something on it also.

What Jed said, I think it is a Pear of some kind. AllthoughI live in Europe and you guys have alot of nice species not common or even present here it looks to be some Pear tree of a kind. Nice to have leaves to ID and not a half rotten stem.

dogwood would have an opposite branch structure, less waxy leaves, and leaf veins would curve more...almost following curve of the leave margin
