Ran across a problem with the decomp on a 353 I just rebuilt. It was used but looked to be in good shape so I reinstalled it in the fresh cylinder. First problem, it wouldn't kick out all the time when the engine started. Second problem, it leaked even when it did, the hissing noise coming from it left no doubt.
I've had decomps not wanting to stay in before the engine fired, but this is the first time I have had one not kick out after starting, and leak after it did kick out.
Removed and inspected it, it looked fine. Tossed in in the trash and installed a solid plug, problem solved. Who knows what you get on a used saw, and is it really needed on this model?

My 660 has a plug where the decomp would go, which is fine with me. My 361 decomp used to give me trouble, so I stopped using it.
