OK, I am the new fella that asked the Craftsman/Poulan question yesterday. I now have the right model #. Its 358.355051 It will not oil. I need to know if this saw oils off the compression of the engine. If so, when compression falls too low, is the saw done for?

On a lighter note, I just got done putting a new recoil spring in my Mac PM610. I almost forgot how much fun that was, almost! That old saw is a old grizzley bear. It uses almost as much gas as my truck!

Thanks in advance for the help.:greenchainsaw:

Your Craftsman/Poulan saw is a horizontal cylinder saw that oils from crankcase pressure that pressurizes the oil tank . If the oil cap does not seal it will not pressurize the oil tank therefore it will not oil the bar . If the oil filter is clogged it will not oil the bar . If the check valve is stuck it will not oil . If the saw has enough compression to run it should oil the bar . How do you start the saw ?

Thanks Scott
This saw starts on the third or fourth pull, and always has. Thats why I can't beleive its shot. Is there a source for a manual, since the original is long gone.

You might find a manual from sears.com but it would be a owners manual and it would be general . They have an IPL on your saw on sears.com , just click on parts then type in your 358355051 model number . Have you ever cleaned out the oil tank or oil filter ?
