What's up guys? It's hard for a tree man to find liability insurance around here in NC. The lowest quote I got was $290.00 a month for $300,000 coverage. I work full time and I do side work. I want to get a little insurance so I don't have to eat the bill if the unthinkable happens. Since my last post I've had to tell the home owner that he or she is not responsable for dammage or accidents caused by my work. That was the only way I could afford it. It's hard to turn down good money when your broke. Please don't criticize me for not having liability insurance. I know it's a big risk. I would realy like some help on getting some or at least where to start. Because I've beaten every bush around here. I know there are some of you guys out there that have been down the same road before you got your own business. Thanks alot,BB

3 G's for $1,000,000 of coverage. I think it was like $700 something down, and about $275 a month? every month.

I have Acuity Ins. I pay about $500 per year. You might want to ask them for prices in your area. I am in North Dakota, so coverage costs tend to be lower. I work mostly by myself and have for many years. I did one time slightly damage a mobile home with a limb. The resident went for all the money they could get out of it. (people tend to get very greedy when they see the possiblity of money) Acuity came through no problem. I was pleased with the results and they gave me no grief about the incident at all.

Froggy, I'm having the same problem. The lowest quote I have received so far is about $2100/yr for $300,000. Do a search for liability insurance I started a thread a while back...got some good information. Seems if you haven't been insured previosly your premiums are going to be higher. At least thats the excuse they're giving me.

I had 1 million for around $1400. $500 deductible.

The trick for me was finding an insurance co that is not hip to what tree work entails.

That only covers me. $40 extra per $1000 payrole.

I'll have to look and see who it is through again.

It has several stipulations like it won't cover damage done to power lines, utilities, etc.

I posted a link a while back, can't find it in my bookmarks, they were a few hunded higher then my current underwriter. It is an associated pool typ operation, where you are buying into a bigger policy. You have the premium and an annual membership fee. I talked to my broker and they said it was legit, they just could not run me through it do to certain laws.

Search through the other insurance threads and yo may find it.

I received a letter in the mail today from my insurance co. They won't renew my ins. this year. They won't cover tree service. Here I have been under them for 4 years now and have always done tree service and told them so up front. I called and asked them about it. It wasn't me, it was just tree service in general. So, don't bother trying the one I recommended. Now I am looking for another company. I made phone calls all afternoon, it will take a little while. Fortunately the other doesn't run out until early june.
