The local power company had a bad accident a year or two ago where a contractor was severely hurt while line clearing.
They are back to doing their own line clearing now and they are climbing on ropes and leaving a canopy over the lines.
That's amazing Grace!

Guess it depends on the Hydro company; Hydro Ottawa does their own line clearances it appears because I saw a chipper being towed behind one of their trucks a few weeks ago. My supplier at home is Ontario Hydro, and I never have seen them out-I think Asplundh does theirs.

Asplundh does the contracting for Great Lakes Power east of the Sault but the Great Lakes guys are learning the ropes north of the Sault.
They have the buckets as well but I've never heard of a power company incorporating a rope when line clearing.
This is new here.

line clearance

A few years ago I got a job with a contractor doing line clearance for a local (small) power company. I was amazed to discover that the power company would only allow us to trim with a hydraulic circular saw and we could only use the hyd. pole saw while doing removals. These guys would get mad if you spent that extra second trying to make a proper cut (I say trying because it's difficult with a circular saw). They were only concerned with productivity and scrictly enforced 'stubbing' all cuts. Man, those trees looked awful. I guess they thought they were saving money.
