just decided to play with this saw. i got it for free from the trash. had been outside for 6 years in the mud. took a while to get it running and now i plated with exaust and intake. oh and but a 10 inch bar on it. i know its only a homelite but hey it is a free saw so if i break it im not out anyhting. working on the chain now. the saw is a homelite 27av.

Gotta love the little mini homelites. I don't know about that one, but my XL is/was a great saw. Mine came with a hardnose 10" bar.

Arggg, one of those :bang: Be glad it was free and you weren't the poor sucker who bought it new!

I love finding stuff in the trash! :D

Heh, free is the best stuff. especially when you can turn it around and get something from it, like my BR320 blower, got it free, fixed it up nice, and sold it for $100.

i know the guy who payd for the saw. was my dad. he didnt have much $$$ to spend and the saw worked well for him. till the saw shop got it and messed it up. thats why he tossed it. then i found it.

One advantage of working in a saw shop is that guys will just give you an ancient saw rather then throw it out. Sometimes they just leave them in front of the door if we're not open!

What was the best orphaned saw you found on the door step?

We used to have "junk days" where the city would pick up stuff that the trash guys wouldn't, lawnmowers, snowblowers, etc. People would set stuff like that out, I would go around picking it up. Unfortunately they killed the program...

we have them here in richmond. my dad is a lawnmower freak and will scoop up atleast 10 mowers. The mower i use is one of the freebies craftsman self proprelled all it needed was some fresh gas and the carb cleaned out, it had water in the bowl

The past weekend I picked-up a Homelite Super 2 for $10.00 at the flea market, basically because that was the first model of saw that I ever ran. Hopefully I can put it right with minimal $$.

"One mans trash is another mans....."

Fill in the blank! I say "shameless obssesion" when anything with a gasoline engine is involved!

I scored a 5 year old Lawn Boy push mower on one such 'junk day'. Other that it absolutly will not idle until the engine is completly warmed up I can find nothing wrong with it. I presume the cause of the problem is the idle mixture and I have not even bothered to look to see if there is an adjustment screw or has a 'fixed' idle jet.

Love it!
:)

Ya know, I'm STILL PO'd at the guys at the dump, I saw a BEAUTIFUL Exmark Metro with just a few pieces of bent metal that I coulda fixed up real nice and used for myself, but they said no way. buttholes. oh well, I still score good stuff from time to time, old mowers, edgers, blowers saws, tools, whatever.

homelite 27av problems

I have a 27av homelite that stopped running. I replaced the flywheel and the ignition coil and it still wont start. Is the gap on the new module measured parallel to stator or is it tight in front and gapped on the trailing edge of the ign module

Set the airgap at between 10 and 12 thou i use a business card to do the job insert the card and rotate the flywheel till the magnets suck the coil down onto the flywheel then tighten ............

Mc Bob.

Picked up a Stihl 015AV for 5 bucks at a garage sale...changed plug, added fresh mix, fired up on 5th pull. Only thing else I've done is put a new chain on it.
