I am looking to add decorative 1/2 log beams to my ceiling in my cabin. Would use Red Pine logs, cut 8" wide, 4" thick, but some as long as 14 ft. I plan to hand peel, stress relief on the flat side, air dry initially followed by kiln drying. A little worried about the thickness as far as cracks and warping given the length? Have no experience in doing this type of undertaking? Any advice from someone that has done 1/2 log beams, or paneling would be appreciated. Likewise, at 14 ft what amount of diameter variances can I expect between large end and small end on Red Pine? Thanks.
