Supersplitter, Which model?

I'm looking into buying a new splitter, and found the supersplitter website. I'll be splitting about 100 cord a year flying solo (with occassional high schooler help).

The machine is impressive, and I'm loving the 3 second cycle. Nice and fast.

I start to get in 'over my head' a bit when trying to pick the model I need as far as the specs go though.

The Heavy Duty model has a 6hp subaru (or 5.5 honda) and advertises 14 -18 ton splitting power for $2600.

The Special addition model has 9hp honda, and says 18 -25 ton splitting force for $3850.

$1250 dollars is a big jump. Do I need that much more machine, or do you think the Heavy Duty would be sufficient?

you'll be fine with the heavy duty model.

only problem is,they split so fast you have to get the wood away from the splitter or you'll bury yourself .

That's where a conveyor comes in handy!
$1250 for a 3hp upgrade is just stupid! I wonder if they'll take $1250 off and keep their 6hp engine as I already have one!

Love the concept of the super-split...would like to build a copy!

Roland,

overall I think the Supersplit is a very good machine but as with any machine it has its areas that could be improved. Safety is my biggest complaint with it. Many of the safety related things could be redesigned easily but have never been addressed as far as I can see.
