Browsing the pawnshop today-he has as saw that looks older than the others. The only I.D. on it was the name Lombard on the top. I'm new to saws so just wondering if this is "collectable" or just a low level store brand. Curiosity getting the best of me..had to ask.

Without knowing anything about the model or type of saw it's hard to say. Lombard made a wide variety of saws.

Probably a average quality 50-60cc saw from the 1960's those are the most common. But it could be many different things.

Thanks, Scott. After I posted I went to ebay and saerched lombard. Saws that appeared were 50's models. The one I saw was obviously not that old. I've also found a Lombard history in an old thread and read it. I'd have to guess without pictures to go by that this is a 70's or early 80's model. It had a red & black paint scheme if my memory serves me and the bar was probably 20" plus. Any value in picking it up if it's cheap?

think some of there saws were rebadged homelites ,but i could be rong

Thats what I thought for a long time too. But they aren't exactly comprable to the Super XLs or XL-12's. They borrow heavily on homelite parts though and lots of things will interchange between the saws.

Went back to shop to see if i could get more info.Could not find model #. Did see that saw was made in Harrison OH. Went back to Lombard history in earlier thread and found that American Power Equipment produced the Lombard saw starting in 1979. American Power Equipment was based in Harrison OH. so saw is about 25 yrs. old. Has electronic ign. and auto oiler and looks to be in good condition. Shop says it runs, didn't have time to try it. Asking $85.00-guessing thats to high? Thanks for the replies. (couldn't find this item on acres but did try)

Sold Lombards in the late 70's . The saw red and black was around 79, If it is built like the XL-12 Homelite it is probably an AP-42 or AP-42D Lightening. The D model has a compression release. Parts are sometimes difficult to come by and the engine more than likely has a Phelon ignition.
XL-12 air filters look the same, but are not. Bars, chain are the same as XL-12. Still got a few old Lightenings and run them as back ups. I believe the power head is a power products design as many saws were back then.
85 bucks is a little steep unless a guy wants it for collection or conversation piece, but if the saw is running it is a cutter and solid in construction.:monkey:

Thanks, Dingo. I just visited ebay to see what a xl-12 looks like and the two saws are near identical except for color. Were the specs on the two saws the same-if so, do you remember them? I'd do a search in archives but search hasn't been working for a few days. Might try to deal on it if he'll go below $50.00.:dizzy:
