I've got a lombardini air cooled engine on my stump grinder. I've never had any problems out of it. Don't know anything about the water cooled engines.

The water cooled Lombardini engines are used in a lot of boat applications. Do not have any experience with the liquid cooled. Air cooled have served me well.

I have 3 or 4 air cooled lombardini's diesels that are very reliable. I have heard nothing but good things about the liquid cooled engines. There is a lombardini/hatz dealer a few miles down the road from here. And from what they have in the showroom they seem to be putting them on alot of high end equipment.

I heard about the kohler merger also, hopefully the parts prices will come down soon.

Does anyone have any experience of water cooled 4 cylinder diesel Lombardini engines round about the 30 to 40 HP range?

Are they good engines? Any problems with them?

Thanks

My advice would be dont under any condition part with money for one of those engines. Especially the older early ninetees engines. I have had a lot of experience in the past not so much recently. In the uk you cant give a genset away with a Lombo engine. Most other makes command top money ie lister ( not the Alpha engine ) kubota , Yanmar, perkins,Cummins, deutz, kohler, hatz etc. In 1995 the failure rate of a lombo engine before 400hrs was 60%. Sorry to be so negative.
