My younger son is taking a couple of saws with him to do some work out of town.

He wants to take longer bar (the 441 has a 28" and 20" now), but he wants to take a 36" as well. Has anybody used a long bar on the 441? How well does it work, did you use full skip? I would like to give him the 660 but may need it here.. just looking for any input you may have. (he is also taking the Echo 330T along)

Not sure because I never ran one, but I have fell timber with guys that ran them with both 32" and 36" bars (my ex father-in-law fell a few in Alaska with a 42" bar on his). For that small of a powerhead I would go with full skip, but it all just depends on how sharp the chain is, and how far you have the rakers filed down. My rule of thumb is generally full skip (or maybe semi-skip) on any bar over 32", just because I don't like to file or grind that many teeth. It all just depends on the application though.

Depends on the appl. but it will pull the 36, it will be slow. full skip chain will help ease the engine load but slow the cutting down also. I like full skip on anything over 28".

I sure you could put a 36" bar on a 441, I just dont know if I would. Seems like you would sacrifice alot of chain speed. You can run skip chisel and get by, as others have suggested, and it would work, just gonna be slower cutting. My gut says that's a little too much bar for that saw, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

My thoughts exactly.. although my 660 will pull a 36" quite nicely.. but a few add'l cc's there as well. I may try with a full skip, and if he needs it then he has it.. Would never be my full time long bar saw though.

I have used a 36" when I had to but the 441 don't like it. It's only rated for 32" if memory serves me right. I have ran a 32" on it with no problems but prefer to run a 25". For one or two cuts in big wood it will work fine but I'd switch out to make those cuts and not run the big bar on it all all times.

I've posted this before but here is a crane pick I am doing with a 441, 36" bar (yeah I know, brain bucket, this was back before I wore one):

+1 on the 32 in being maxed

So I picked up a 36".. so I have another one now :)

And he will be on his way.. not sure if he will actually use it.. but I am going to try it out when I get it back and see how it goes. Maybe post a pic of it here when I get time and let you know how it goes.
