I've been reading alot of these posts about the firewood biz which are very helpful. I was looking for any more info about cutting, processing, best types of wood, palleting, etc. Basically all I would need to know to start selling firewood (of course I am looking for things and ideas to do this profitably and efficiently). I currently have a landscape maintenance company and am looking for other avenues of revenue. I am equipt with saws etc. but would have to buy a splitter or was even considering a small processor. In your guys view is there good money to be made?

Depends on where you are and what you consider to be good money. Around here, free wood is so easy to come by the only people selling it are tree companies (a few) just to get rid of the wood they cut, and desperate people who think $100 is big money.

Do a search as there have been many excellent treads specifically on the topic.

The only thing that is certain is that with the price of oil and natural gas where they are and where they apparently are going, firewood can only become more and more valuable.

$100 profit on a cord would be good to me (not big money there but volume (selling 5 cords at a shot or so) and delivery $ would be a great way for some extra income and also a way to keep my guys working when we have a slow day with our other services (I could just send them to the yard to split).

you need a tractor of some sorts to move logs and split wood.

splitter is the hold up. pretty hard to split wood at a 10 second cycle.

drop me a line. i'm a landscaper and do firewood in my spare time. also sell high volume splitters adn small 1 to 2 cord per hour processors.

palletizing is something i have not yet figured out for high volume. my next step.

I have a L3400 Kubota and am in the market for a used skid loader (track loader like a 257B). I am looking for a good and speedy splitter or processor. What items do you handle?
