Looking at a Carlton 2700-4 stump grinder and a Haulmark 6x12 enclosed trailer

anyone have experience with the 2700

I ran a Google search and couldn't find a website. anyone got an address?

the machine's in great shape (owned by the guy I currently use to grind all my stumps, so I know a little history)

any info would be appreciated

Have used a Carlton 2700 with kawasaki liquid cooled engine and wired remote. My opinion is Carlton makes a very heavy duty machine. Lots of extra heavy steel make a very heavy machine and not sure if it is needed for this smaller application. Thought the kawasaki motor did not have the same power as the Kohler on the Rayco. The machine I used also seemed to get stuck a lot in the grindings. Also the Rayco has a hill lock that holds the machine on a slope while the carlton must be chocked. Compared to my Rayco 1625A the Rayco was quicker and more maneuverable. I would suggest possible demo of both and compare for yourself. Good luck.

I had a Rayco JR. with the hyd. tongue. I thought that it was a heck of a small grinder, one of the best small ones I have used. If you used the tongue to push or pull, you could get it through most low traction situations. The only real complaint I had with the Rayco was the travel speed was way too slow. My Levco has 2 circuits, fast and slow travel. Fast will move at walking speed, the Rayco just crawls.

so i take it the spike thingy on the rear of a carlton ,is what you have to use to stop yourself from slidding down when grinding on a hill ?? it's a kind of ground spike rite ?? what happens if your on concrete ??

Need to use wheel chocks on pavement with Carlton, 'holding tongue spike' becomes useless on pavement or concrete.

Rolla did you ever get to demo the Bandit grinder? Have someone bringing me a Rayco 1631 to look over and he also sells Bandit. Bandit comes with a 29hp diesel and is 3 times the ground speed of the Rayco. Just a bit out of my price range this year.
