'84 gmc Sierra 3500. 9' Omaha flatbed, rebuilt 350 4bbl? Not sure yet. Has the sm465 4 speed with creeper gear. Cab was painted , all six tires are good. Here are some frame pics. Any scary stuff I should know about these?image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

check the frame at gear box, alot of them broke the frame their... simple fix if you find it in time you can get a plate that is welded to the frame and the gear box then bolts through...

Decent price. the only thing I don't like is dangling and exposed wiring. Around here, road salt gets into places like that, corrodes connections and you will be chasing wiring problems.

If you drive in the snow, "diggle berries"(huge balls of ice) will form on the hanging wire harnesses and pull the wires out. Secure them like Moe said.
It looks like a 2 wheel drive. Decent price ether way. If it is 2 wheel drive. Pull the plow off and sell it next fall. It has no practical use on a 2 wheel drive truck.

Like lone wolf stated check engine, start the truck a couple of times to see if she let's out smoke, every older Chevy I had needed valve seals. I'm sure with some weight in the back it will plow good, that's what the contractor uses at my work, all 2wd stakebodys.

We fired it up. Battery was weak but it fired, idled, ran and revved. No smoke I could see. I think I'd sell the plow, but with the sander loaded with 2 yards they said it pushed fine but the sander is extra and I'm not interested. The wiring is for the sander, but agreed I didn't like it loose either. Truck has been used then put in the garage

Keep the plow unless you have one already they sure are nice when it snows.

Yeah I know. I'm torn about that. Wife says keep. But truck is 2wd. I'd need some good weight in the back on all these hills.

Hmm, big ole gnarly truck with flatbed, being discussed on a cut trees up forum..hmm..where to find a buncha weight to put in the back in the winter..hmmm... ;)

two large is a pretty fair price for a runner like that.

Well we got it. But it wasn't without some colorful events, allow me to share. So I went back out with my buddy, a Packard restorer and certified GM dude. Truck checks out but needs some stuff, pitman arm, floorboard, Ebrake cable etc. But engine it strong, runs smooth trans/clutch right on too. Guy won't budge so I pay but still think it's a deal. Agree to pick truck up in three days. Sander off, plow removed and in bed. I leave with title and BOS. Friday comes I call to confirm for Sunday he says he can't no one around. Huh?? I say I own truck and it's now insured and registered. He says he'll try for Sunday, then blows me off in txt message early Sunday. Now I'm BS. I say I need truck Monday and, oil better be full, have fuel and plow off. Okay no problem. Texts me Monday early says can't make it. Ha I call, sorry sal I'll be there like we agreed with the plates and my old man. He says he'll make it happen. We get there. Sander off plow still on WTF. Screw it, I'm not waiting ill wheel it thru downtown boston with it on. Halfway home truck dies. Dead battery. Figure out corrosion on alt. terminal. Get it charged. Back on road. Now no power on hills. Bucking, no throttle response. Let off gas and it cleans up. Limp it to garage at work and find clogged and swelled fuel filter. Removed it and test drove. Problem solved.
Got home at 930 pm. What should have been 1 hr ride took 4. Long story, the truck had been sitting, and not on highway in years. I got up next morning 5am 12*, sob fired right up. Choke set itself and idled great. The 350 is strong and sm465 operates great. Needs some work but it's got a sticker and it's driving. I'll post pics later.

Isn't it a c35, not a 3500?

I have the same truck in Chevy trim, it's a C30. I've had no problems running it this winter. I have tire chains and a Detroit locker. If I need more than that, I doubt a k30 would get much further.

I haul 2 cords on it.

Those year GM engines were known to have valve stem seal issues. The stem seals have a split ring retainer that break in half and fall on top of the head. If you ever go to remove the head you'll find them laying around the lower head of the head bolts and will be scratching your head trying to figure why the socket wont go gown on the nut all the way. Fish around the nut with a pick and magnet and you'll come up with the retainerf in half. I have a '84 K10 GM 350 and am in the middle of doing head gaskets and found the retainers then had a little freak out moment. I also have a SM465 and love it with my 4WD because I never need 4Lo. If your doing all the maintenance dont forget to change the oil in the SM465, its cheap insurance and easy to do. If you plow with it dont be lazy and drag your foot on the clutch waiting to shift it'll wear the clutch out faster. People usually go with auto's for plowing because the high number of shifts. I'd love my K10 but wish I had something that would hold more wood.

Good info. I think the gmc trucks were 35s earlier, I know the fender badge says Sierra 3500. As far as the engine goes, it's been rebuilt or has a rebuilt 350, hopefully valve are good
