Thanks for the response Brian. I'd love to try the 346 however, I could not find anyone in my area who had one. So, I'm stuck with trying to make my 260 better by opening up the muffler and adding an adj carb. If I'm not mistaken, in reading some of your previous posts on the subject, you seemed to think that doing those two things made a big difference no? I know other posters here have alluded to that fact.

It sucks that Stihl choked the 260 muffler and it sucks that Stihl put a non-adj carb on but I have a 260 *now* and I really can't afford to be buying saws, playing with them then selling what I don't like. So, I'm hoping to find a good used carb for around $25 in which case I wouldn't feel too bad about it.

I'm curious now that you brought this up. All feelings aside with Stihl doing what they did to the 260, do you honestly think the stock 346 is that much better than a modified 260? When I posted the question as to which one to get, it seemed the general concensus was that both were worthy saws with the 346 having a slightly faster cut speed but the 260 having a bit more low end and being more tolerant of not having a razor sharp chain.

Interested in hearing your comments but I'm still looking for that used carb. Anyone willing to part with one?

ha ha.

No problem Brian. I thought some thing didn't seem right. It just didn't don on me that you may have mis-read my post.

Anyhow, I just got an email from some one willing to sell me a carb.

Yee haa! I found a carb.

Thanks all. I found a carb. Now I can Rustyize my 260.
