I'm in need of another mid sized saw for a back up. I know they are hard to find but looking for a clean 044/440. I rather it be stock or not much more than a muff mod.

I need a good 044 fuel tank, the original screw in cap style, 044 top cover with the correct name plate and air filter plastics. Some nice cases or a project saw would be ok also, let me know what ya got.

Thanks
Used 044 tanks are pushing 20 yr old: brittle, cracked, or busted seems to be the norm.

There has been some discussion of requesting Stihl to make another limited run of 044 tanks, but until that happens, Consider using a new 440 tank; it may not match the bar oil cap, but it will be solid. You can find them in eBay for $110 shipped.

That's what I'm doing with mine, as they start to give trouble.

I've got a clean MS440 in complete stock form, its been sitting since I have an old 044 that won't quit. Not sure how much you want to spend, this is the whole saw except bar/chain. I think its 2004 but I have to check if you are interested.

Thanks for the info. I had a nice stash of spares but the parts pile is slowing dying down. I just smashed a nice 10mm saw that had a near new tank, lol. While the flippy cap tank works, if I were to restore the 10mm, it would get a correct era tank.

Like Heath said ,even a new nos 044 tank will be brittle ,plus the vents leaked often ,ms440 tank

We know this Dave guy that is working on getting repop 440 tanks ,non oem soon ,i was all happy when i found a nos tank on ebay one time ,went to push the kill switch lever into place and the tab snapped off from old age ,the plastic lost its flex and got brittle i think ,I am not saying all of them will do that ,but i am not going to try another screw cap tank now from my bad experience .,the webbing on the 440 handles is more rugged also if look underneath .

Dang 2000 I thought you give up on this site forever.

I took a long break after the new server went up. I've been looking for Timberwolf all over the web and thought he may have been here.

It's good see there are a few old members like us left. I'm Stihl into saws, over the years using parts and not buying any has left my stash small. I spoke to Tommy the other day, the sucker said he sold a lot of his also.

Yeah I thought you had got into guns instead of saws as much. I'll see if I can find a contact for Timberwolf.

I've had a few that did that and also leaked. If the tank wasn't stored indoors or in a climate controlled area, plastic will break down.

I may be interested in the aftermarket 044 tank, will keep looking around.

I started a gun biz in 2012, won't never give those up. If you find TW, holler, I have a sick 026 he built that I want to sell. Thanks
