I cut my own firewood, and at times it means that I end up stacking limbs and brush from trees. I'm realizing that chipping this stuff would be quicker and easier. Are there any small cheap chippers out there that would work ok for brush? I'm talking small, like a chipper that would only take 3"-4" max diameter stuff. Anything larger seems way overkill and too expensive. Are these types of chippers any good, or are they not really up for the work? It would probably only get used about 150 hours a year. Thanks, Nick.

How many cords of wood are you cutting? Before I got in the landclearing biz, I cut my own firewood and a little extra, maybe 15 cords a year. I chipped my brush with a DR 18hp chipper. Two years of that only put 100 hours on the machine. I have a potential buyer lined up at the moment but if he falls through I could hook you up. Machine would fit your needs I think. They sell them new for about $3K I think.

I'm only cutting maybe 5 a year tops. That machine seems to be pretty good for my needs. Do you know what the model number is on it and what year it is? I'd definitely be interested if your other buyer falls through. Drop me an email about the price. Thanks, Nick. [email protected]

Just last weekend I cleaned up two years worth of bark, small limbs, and yard waste with a friends borrowed Toro Super Tomahawk. I was worried that it might be underpowered, but it seems to have a good sized flywheel that did the trick. Now I have enough mulch to do the wife's flower beds next spring. A lot of the limbs were around 3", and the oak bark was pretty knarly stuff.

I have also heard nothing but good comments about those DR chippers.

I would get a chuck-n-duck 12" they really only take about 6" but you never know when your going to need the extra inches. By the way they are relitively cheap!

Go onto bandits webs site and they have a used equipment forum your might be able to get something there or just put it in a search engine.
