hi guys, I have a question. Today while on bailey's website i was looking at there ripping chain section and saw they sell the ripping chain for the lucas mill dedicated slabber. Its called hyper skip and its sold in 50"-60" loops or by the DL . And was wondering what your thoughts were on trying to run it on your real long bars and maybe shorter ones...it's really cool looking stuff it looks like it skips 10 drive links then theres a couple cutters then skips again. I figured i would see what your thoughts were

Well firstly it's 404 chain so it's going to have a bigger kerf. Then to get optimal cutting speeds with these on a Lucas (which is low revving) the rakers need to be taken right down. There is an Aussie guy on this site that uses 5 DL skip chain on his 880 and he reckons it cuts well but has never provided any comparative cutting time. My experience with skip chain is that it does clear sawdust better, is quicker to sharpen because there are fewer cutters, but goes blunt faster.
