I was following a nice looking Husqvarna 55 Rancher on Ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320482823652&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

One of those times I wasn't going to be around for the auction to end, so I put a $155.50 bid on it.

The seller indicates that it may have been "straight gassed" or at least the wrong mix was used in it.

Got home and ended up winning the auction. I wasn't expecting this saw to go nearly that high, so now I'm thinking I just paid over $150 for saw with a "smoked" P/C.

Got the saw in yesterday, and it is in EXCELLENT condition. Aside from a couple of specs of paint missing, very low hours, not a scratch on the piston or cylinder, and excellent compression. Still has the OEM P/C in place.

The saw was not running due to a tear in the fuel line just above the tank, and it was kinked and collapsed just inside the tank.

Someone spent a lot of time trying to figure out what was wrong with it, as there are half a dozen screws missing, and the coil is loose and rubbing the flywheel. Spark plug was loose, carb bolts loose, intake screws gone, exhaust nuts loose, one fell off during shipping.

Guess they missed the simple stuff, so I got lucky on this one. It's going to take about $20 worth of small parts to get it going, so I'm still into it for under $200.

Typically this is NOT how an Ebay saw purchase goes, most will have P/C damage, or other deeply rooted problems, but there are still some nice saws out there to be had.....Cliff

Cliff???? . . . . Another 50cc saw? Way to go!

Yikes!

I wished they would sell the last nine 330's at TSC, I have to walk all the way around the store to avoid the display, those saws are possessed!.....LOL....Cliff

Ya, me too. They lowered the price ya know? I think $179 now. We must have passed each other in there a time or two, Im in there often, LOL.

Yep, these "little" Husqvarna's have me hooked. I wished I could get a few more with the closed port P/C, they really scream, like running a smaller version of a 372XP.

The open tranfer P/C's are good runners, but don't have that strong top end power of the closed port engine. They open jugs seem to have smoother power, and broader torque curve, so they do fine.

The factory closed port 45mm P/C's appear to still be available, but are quite a bit more expensive than the 46mm open port version.

I still think buying these saws in decent shape is money better spent than buying a new 455 with the "clamshell" engine. I've had zero issues with any of them, and they see a LOT of use here. Plus it helps me to "standardize" spare parts, as just about everything fits most 51-55's thru the years of production.......Cliff

Good to hear that an Ebay transaction went well this week. Have been hearing a lot of "burns" lately, such as my 272- but ya win some ya lose some.

Yep, that's partly why I posted my most recent Ebay purchase, not everyone is dumping complete junk on you, once in a while you make out. I've done OK with Ebay saws. To date got singed hard on two of them, complete peices of JUNK that were supposed to be nice running saws.

The best ones I've ended up with were my 51 and 55's. Even though my closed port 55 had a stuck ring in it, the jug and piston cleaned up nicely, so I got lucky with that one.

It's tough to get any of these saws under $100 anymore, even non-running decent looking units typically go to at least $125, some higher.

I really took a gamble on this one, and it paid off, but I'll still have nearly $200 by the time I'm done with it....Cliff

It gets even better. I left POSITIVE feedback to the seller, with a side note that the saw was NOT exactly as described in the auction.

It specifically said COMPLETE, but was missing $25.00 worth of small parts. I listed the parts, and the cost.

When I come in this evening, I have $25 from the seller in my Pay Pal account.

michellebeshara is the seller, with 22 sales and 100 percent positive feedback.

Nice to see there are some honest folks left in this World!......Cliff

nice to see a "good" transaction on flea-bay.

most of the stuff i got there was at a point where there wasn't much useful life in it.

good luck with the 55!

Beware, and be vigilant

sometimes you can find a gem in the rocks.

some people post stuff on Ebay and haven't a clue what it is... makes me laugh that they can't even do a bit of research.
oh well.. they leave it to the buyer...

I bought a 281 on ebay cheap cause it was dirty, rough looking, and the seller didn't know what it was. Thought it might be a 55

another, 026pro was advertised as a "028... maybe 029" Another cheap score for a good parts saw.
