Hi Oregon Rob. What attachment are you using, Alaskan? Also, what are the black looking boards for in the center of the first pic???

Hi Doug01,
Empty your PM box.

It (372) worked fine for small stuff. Your have to be careful though, it can be addicting. If you have not already done so, I suggest opening up your muffler. If you do some searches, you will find all the details.

gr8mac,
Yes, it’s an Alaskan. The “black boards” are really chunks of rubber mat. I needed something to shim up my milling fixture, due to the small diameter of the logs. I just had those in the back of my truck.

Good luck,

Rob

Whats the saw I see off to the left in the first picture? I think it looks like a Jonsered.

Hi Rob, heres a rustic shack I once made from Red Pine with a 30$ Beam Machine and an 066. The joinery was mortise and tenon which I did with an 009.

Old Saw

That is my faithful 801. That is my first saw, bought used in around 1985 and except for one fuel line, has never failed to start of given me a moments trouble. I did let a friend borrow it, who stripped out both bar studs, but that’s not the saw’s fault.

Gypo,
It’s sure cost effective, as long as you don’t consider the hourly wage thing. I do enjoy the outcome though. Here is a project I did last year with a windfall cedar.

Do you dry the wood before you use it........and how?

Hi McSaw, ya, I could probably fit right in, I always wanted a "Lil Gray Shack in the West", though, so was practicing for my new abode.
Hi Rob, yes, with the short log construction, also known as "piece on piece", additions can be added at any time by simply extending off the posts. I would think that one could build a 700sq. foot cabin, alone in under 3 months, given that they had the wood local and were good with a saw, square and plumb bob.
Heres a pic of the " Beam Machine", I use to sell them on Ebay till others, including the guy that makes them caught on.
John
