So i maybe able to setup a get together in the central Mass area this weekend, or possibly a following weekend. It wouldnt be on my property but at my girlfriends brothers house where i have been doing a lot of tree work for him. i realized after i last went up there it may be worthwhile to have a gtg since we have about 7 or so trees down now that need to be cut up and one tree that is hung up (probably not good for anyone to do for the gtg but he may be willing to pay someone to get it down) but it would give enough wood for folks to do saw races and or demo techniques.

Since i have yet to be able to attend one just curious what is the general process? is everything normally setup already or would it be fine to work the trees as they lay? would anyone be remotely interested? and as an insurance guy (more paranoid then most) do the property owners that have the gtg's generally have people sign hold harmless agreements or just operate on a whim?

it'd be great to get folks together on the forum but want to make sure i get all the info to him to try to sway him over.

Seems a little short notice to me but that's ok. The one GTG I have been able to attend was in Ohio at a members place-BODA1 IIRMC nice guy, family etc. He had just a bunch of wood set up on blocks of other wood to cut on. Properity owner did not have anyone that I know of sign anything, but if that's what you need to feel comfortable then that's what you need I guess. Most of the time there is some kind of food involved although not always from hotdogs to catered food and anything in between sometime the guys wifes are kind enough to send something along. PM me if I can be of any help. Oh and its way to far for me to drive so I am out

What part of mass? i had a gtg a while back. There was a crapy small pile of pine. Guys just showed up set up there saws and friged around with saws all day. mostly cuttin cookies and b.s.ing about saws. It was low buget low stress bring yr own food or whatever......Great time!!

At one GTG yr and half back, in Kingston NY, some cut piles of cookies & sawdust. Some went to piles of logs our host planned to cut for firewood. So we obliged. Probably helps some to have logs set up off ground. Not a big deal for a few guys with cant hooks to roll logs up onto other (notched) logs. 4X4 with chain can handle many hangups, then polesaws to get it all on the ground.

Never saw any paperwork, so far at 3 NY GTGs. Seems to be "honor system" in that people know their limits and act responsibly.

Coming up on 13 Jul., couple of guys have a GTG planned S of Middletown NY. You might inquire of member MechanicMatt.

Where in MA?

He's up in new braintree mass. by the sounds of it he would be up for it but by everyones responses we have some prepping to do as right now we just have 11 trees on the ground and are still in the process of cutting the branches off.
