I saw a living, breathing Promac 1010s today!

I work in a farm store that handles Husqvarna saws/bars/chains and a boatload of Oregon replacement bars and chains/files, etc. As I was heading into work this morning this pickup truck comes rolling up and the driver, seeing that I was a store employee says, "Hey, ya gotta tape measure? Where do I measure my (chainsaw) bar from to get the right chain?"

My reply, "Take the chain off of the saw & I'll match it."

S'anyway, after getting the new chain for him I asked him about his old Mac and it had belonged to his grandfather and was still in running condition. I presume he put it right to work after I sent him out of the store with a fresh chain and some two-cycle oil along with the instruction to not mix it at any less than 32:1.

Anybody else got one (or knowing this crowd...MANY?)

:)

I have one. It is in great shape. Will walk and talk with a twenty inch bar. Bought it in with a bunch of other saws. Put a carb. kit in it and put it to use. On the mix. I have about 23 old saws and I use Stihl or Echo oil with Premium gas (92 octane) and I run all of them at 40 to 1 Mix. Tom

I have two 041 that I got recently, but they are non runners. I have never owned a runner so can not answer. Tom

I own a 10-10 but I have never run a 041 so I cannot comment on a comparison. I can tell you that at the end of the day you know that you have run a chainsaw. The vibration does a number on your hands. :chainsaw:

I've got 4 or 5 of them and few parts saws.I think two are right hand start. The one I use most is super pro 10-10,one of the later ones that is 3.5 cu inchs rather that 3.3.

How it stacks up to an 041,I haven't a clue .It's a handy size , rather light weight and dependable saw.I'd say it does real well for how ever old it is,25 or so years??

The Yellow Saws.

I'm not sure what it was. I learned to cut with a pro XL saw(s) back in 1980.
I blew two up and kicked one off a bluff. I hurt my toe and had to go pack it back up. BAD memories have been dredged up. I'll probably have nightmares about endless pulling on the starter cord. Aaaargh. And that numb left hand in the morning. Prying the fingers open.....too much, too much.

Some of them will make you teeth rattle right out of your head and some don't .I never knew why.

I've had some that would make a preacher cuss and some that ran like a charm all day, every day.

That's true. I never cussed much until the Pro XL year. Yesterday, I had to cut out a road, (there's still trees down from the November storm) and had a young man along. I finally had to tell him, I can't help it, when I'm running a saw, bad words spew out. And now I use Stilhls.

If by "living and breathing" you mean "lying upside down in the trash pile outside my shed", then yes, I have one.:hmm3grin2orange:

How does the 10-10 compare to an 041av? I've heard them compared some.

Has been a while since I run a 10-10. From what I remember and with other macs I remember being good starters and warming up quick. I dont think the 10-10 had as much power or vibes as the 041 farm boss but was probably close in both area's. The 041av I would say is more user freindly considering vibes. I think also the o41's cut longer on a tank of fuel but will not say for sure. Judging by all the 10-10s I have seen (I only remember having 1 a short time, but I run a pro mac 55 a while which is similar) I would guess reliability is close.

I have a Pro-Mac 700, the 10-10s bigger brother. The 10-10 style chassis is the iconic McCulloch saw. Of course today these saws show their age, but three decades earlier they were a true professionals tool.

I picked up a nice looking and running 10 10 s last winter. It's fun to cut with for a while. It's loud and proud. It also makes me apreciate my huskys and dolmars.

First off i'm a new member so if i step on anybodies toes i appologize, i have a 10-10a and a PM10-10 the 10-10's are good runners the only problems i've had is the points, which you can convert them to electornic ignition for about $10.50 and they'll run like a champ, i run 16" bars on them and they act like there ain't nothin there, the vibration can be bad but in the famous words of my father "it'll put hair on your chest," just picked up a few more old macs today hopin to have them runnin soon.
