I've often heard these things get slammed, not sure why...I've used them for over 30 years and absolutely love them!

Now that takes me back to the 70's. It worked great but we took it off quite often just to clean the creosote from it.

I have considered one of these in the past and people have told me that they drasticaly reduce the temp of the flue thus causing an excess amount of cresote buildup . I have never used one myself just what i have been told.

A buddy of mine uses one and it seems to work fine but he doesn't have more than 6 ft of chimney pipe beyond the unit. I think he cleans it and his chimney once every two weeks.

have used the same one for 5 years now no problems
just move handle 4 hours or so and burn dry wood and no problems

My friend swears by them, but I'm not sure he considered the cooling of the flue gases. My chimney doesn't require cleaning if I burn dry wood and have hot fires......so I'm not changing a thing.

A small box fan on it's lowest setting set on the floor and aimed at the stove will blow heat off the stove and boost the convection loop in the home, accomplishing as much or more than one of those gadgets.

Thanks

I figured that it would cool the stack temp and cause a little build up. I can see it's worth, right now I have an oscilating (SP) fan that hangs out if I really need it.

My father has a small desk fan perched in the corner (Battery operated) that blows past the chimney, with no issues. I just figured that I would pick some qualified brains on this one.

I was considering this, but I figure with the current set up, not a worth while investment. (I only clean my stack 1/month with a brush whether it needs it or not.) Also if weather permits.

Thanks guys.

I have one in my greenhouse (small) I wouldn't put it in a home that said it does pull a good amout of extra heat but it also causes creosote for sure at least mine does might be different manufacturese that make a better one than I have mine is very old I think its called a heatilator same concept. My step dad also swears by them too and had one in his house but didn't replace it with another when it went bad?? Anyway thats all I got. irishcountry
