Hello all! I am here for the first time this evening. My Stihl 028 died a few weeks ago and I have been looking for a replacement. I had been considering only Shihl and Husky; but am now looking into Makita. I would like to hear from anyone with experiences with smaller Makita saws. I am looking at the DCS540 primarily , possibly the DCS520, DCS520i or the DCS430;anyone have experience with these particular models? Or what comparable models from Stihl or Husky should I consider? Am I overlooking any Manufacturers? Thanks for your interest John Foster.

Makita is Dolmar with perhaps a better service/parts network. Dolmar is pretty well-like around here.

There's also Efco, available through Tilton and in John Deere green. The saws get some good reviews around here too.

There's more...

How much are considering spending and what do you intend to do with the saw and how often?

Further details

I plan to spend $400.00 to $600.00 Canadian dollars (northern pesos?). The saw will be used for our own firewood cutting, and general chores on our 18 acres . Thanks for replies thus far John.
