Hey wondering if anyone might know what would cause the roots on what look like Sugar Maple , the bigger woody roots, up to 2 1/2" - 3 " to be up above the ground like literally not even half barried in places. They are younger trees maybe 7-8 years old tops ?? They are growing towards foundation on building and I need to either decide to do complete removal or, idk, if I hack them back that is definitely gonna affect the tree next year, any ideas? Sorry forgot to take pics

you sure its a sugar maple? silver maples are notoriously shallow rooted
deep root watering can help so new root growth is deeper
