I climb as a hobby and most of my experience is with fir/conifer trees. Some of you will call me ignorant for this question, but hey, I am a weekend warrior guy. Keep in mind that I do not have a groundsperson and always work alone. What suggestions to you experienced arborists have for when the length of a branch is equal to-or may even exceed-the distance to the ground and the drop zone contains immobile objects that cannot be damaged? This usually is an issue with maples, common in these parts. I know a two-point rig is probably the answer, but then how do I get the branch to the ground once cut?

go out half way...........

and cut the limb in half.

On maples I usually clear a part of the tree right away to give myself a swing zone.

Hey Greener, Sounds like a speed line will work for you. Search you tube for "speed line tree". Several carabiners and dyneema loop runners should do it for ya. Just pic a spot you want to speed line the branches. Hope this helps, it has several times for me working alone.
