Hi guys, Has anyone had any experince with the Maxi flow filter kits. I need to refit a old 066 with a new filter anyway and the maxi flow kit sounds like it offers some more flow?? or is it bull! I see Baileys offers the kit for $39.95 Sounds ok since the original cover and oval filter together would cost me more than that. Any experinces or input would be appreciated! Thank the Hoosier!

Sharpen your chain it's a jungle out there!!!!!

I have no personal experience but I've heard "They're great" and "Naw, they let too much dirt through!" Those same people who don't like 'em say that K&N's are even worse. Since I've been happily using a K&N on a Husky 268 XP for several years I'd probably buy the Max flow and not look back!:D

If you want a good aftermarket set-up, get the K&N and a velocity stack adapter, but put the nylon "pre-filter" bag around the whole mess to keep the "bug dust" out. Those Max-Flow air filters flow a lot of air, but they also flow a lot of dirt and dust. I serviced a guy's saw recently that only had 4 hours on it with a new max flow and a rebuilt carb and the carb was again full of sawdust.

they let alot of dirt through, but they flow alot of air...

Hold a K&N up to a light one time and you will not use one again. They are little more than gravel screens. The max flow oiled foam sytem should work well as thats what all dirtbikes use and there punsh filters way more than a saw. The thing that gets me though is way does everyone assume that more airflow to the crab throat is a good thing. The exhaust and transfers limit the motor way more than any airfilter. Sort of like adding a gas funnel on the end of a drinking straw. The straw flows the same either way.

Here's a pic of a K&N mounted on a 268 XP. Ben you just have to change philosophies-instead of cleaning your air filter with a K&nN you oil it and forget it for a year. Once it gets good and dirty it stops everyting but the air.;)

Well Guy's I settled on the Maxi-flow kit and it rocks. I got the foam oil and it really livened up my 066. I readjusted the high end and it really ripps with the 36 inch bar. We cut a full 36 inch oak log with skip chain and a 7 tooth sprocket. I gutted the muffler and it cut like hot butter. I was impressed! Thanks for the information and posts. the Hoosier

Sharpen your chain fall is here!!!!!!!

Hey Ben, that straw is going to flow more at a higher pressure. Figure the cfm flowed through the average filter at roughly 15# pressure plus the value of the negative pressure caused by the upstroke of the piston vs the pressure in the transfers caused by the downstroke of the piston, which by the way is a positive displacement, the output is limited by the input. This is NPSH, net positive suction head. The force of the descending piston will increase the velocity of the fluid to whatever it needs to be to vacate the base of the engine via the ports.
