My Mac 610 has always been fairly hard to start. After it warms up its damned near impossible to start. I bought it off a friend of mine that was going overseas and he didnt use it at all. Ive had it for 3 years. I only use it 3-4 times a year. Fuel mix is right, gas is always fresh, air cleaner is clean, good spark plug. When it runs its a cutting fool. Any ideas?

Also are these good saws? How many CC's does the engine have?
And BTW this is my first post. Looks like a nice site.

610

There were many variants of the 610 (605 650 655 610 also 5700) they were a real good saw. and cut well the 650 was the primer modle. they were about 57-60 cc except 605 which was 54cc. Now here is what i would do 1. check the fire on the plug the e-box is set at .015 2. check the compression should be over 150 lb. 3. to be safe look in the muffler port for any scores (pain in but to get to it) 4. check the crankcase for a leakdown test (have saw shop do this if you don.t have a tester. they must have no leaks good seals and a good crankcase gasket. 5. check the carberator and fuel system for problems AND leaks on its mounting gaskets. If this all fails 2 more things sell it to me:biggrinbounce2: or pm ozflea on here for profesional help :yoyo:

610

forgot make sure switch/ground wire is in you spark/ignition test.:yoyo:

Yes a leakdown test is vital in checking the condition of a saw thats been sitting followed by a good clean up of the carby and possibly a carb diaphram kit as in all the years i have worked on my Macs not once have i had to diassemble the carb further than blowing it out with compressed air and replacing the carb diaphrams and metering plate valves this is on the other side of the carby to the main diaphram. Dont forgt to check the fuel line and filter replace if in doubt.

Check to see if your getting a good crisp blue spark and Mc Bob's ya uncle.

Mc Bob.

Thanks guys. Like I said this saw sat for a few years before I got it. Its probably only got 5-6 hours run time on it. How can I tell which model 610 it is? The ID plate just says PM 610. Is this one of the McCulloch commercial grades?

I've got one of those heavy ugly beasts. Run a 24" bar of full skip chain with it. It is a wood eater for sure. It's major downfalls IMO is how much it weighs, and the oiler works when it feels like it. Good thing it has a manual oiler for that. All in all, it is a fun saw to use.

I still get funny looks from people when I pull it outa the back of the truck.
