I have a circa 1980s McCulloch Powermac 310 that seems to need a new electronic ignition assembly, part #216599. I'm looking for an inexpensive replacement ignition.
Suggestions?
Would this one work: Part Number 219386 http://cgi.ebay.com/McCulloch-Solid-State-Ignition-Module-PN-219386_W0QQitemZ190067995009QQihZ009QQcategoryZ79667QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem
Would a circa 1980s Eager Beaver 2.0 ignition, part #217031 work?

The saw is otherwise sound...new bar, chain, drive sprocket. I'd rather get a new saw, but money is very tight right now. I'm leaning towards trying to find an entire used Powermac 310, 320, 330 to use for parts...be cheaper than buying just an ignition?
Thanks for your advice.

Got spark again.

After more fiddlin & :deadhorse: , I'm getting spark again from the ignition.
The problem seems to be that the coil laminations had become grounded to the engine block.

Before the saw stopped running, the ignition assembly had come loose: I was recently given the saw & it hadn't been run before with the new ethanol additive gas...that gas apparently dissolved the carb. manifold/elbow gasket after being used a few times. This then allowed mounting bolts that hold the carb. elbow & the ignition assmbly to come loose. Loose ignition rattled a bit and started touching the flywheel. The rattling & subsequent remounting of the ignition assembly seem to have removed an insulative coating that was covering the laminations at the bolt holes. So, the laminations became grounded to the block as soon as the bolt heads were tightened. Continuity check with multimeter verified same.

I put some tape on the bolt threads where they pass thru the laminations, and some non-conductive washers under the mounting bolt heads. After that, With the laminations ungrounded (but other ground wires hooked up as normal) I started getting spark again.
