I have a Mini Mac 10 that belonged to my Dad.
Dad is gone now, and I would like to restore the saw just for a keepsake.
The crazy thing runs, and I think it is louder than my MS460!
It needs a chain brake handle and a good going over.
Anyone know where I can get a handle?
Any suggestions to help keep the muffler tightened?
Any suggestions for restoring it?
Thanks

I may have a complete saw in the garage. Don't remember if it had a chain brake handle on it, but will check. and let you know.

I've got a saw almost identical to the mini mac 10, only difference is that mine didnt come with a chainbrake on it because the previous owner removed it. Oh, and BTW, the 046, is probably louder, since I've run my eager beaver next to a jred 670, which is very loud.

I Have A McCullogh very similar to a mini mac it is called a mac 120. Decent little saw but is a son of a gun to start. It has a chainbrake handle but does not work very good. Putting lock tite or lock washers on the muffler may help.

You'll do better with locking washers, since locktite will make the bolts permanant, and you'll need to be able to remove them to get the clutch cover off.

I thought the chainbrake was redundant on the mini-mac I used the other day--it took so much effort to engage it I'm not sure the little saw would ever kick with enough momentum . . . personally I'd rather it wasn't there.

that little saw sure was "peaky" as far as the powerband, it saws best when allowed to wind out to full rpm's before the cut, and louder than $hit! fun little saw though and lightweight . . . my father has one out in his shed, think I'll go get it

anyone know--are carb-kits still available for these saw?

Yes carb kits are still available, it used either a Zama carb, or a Walbro, on specific models. either one can still be rebuilt, parts are available. I need a kit for mine now that I think about it.

There are different grades of loctite. Red loctite is permanent, blue isn't. But even permanent loctite isn't forever. The instructions call for heat in order to release the bolt. The 075 justs laughs at loctite and spits the bolt out. Pretty soon, you're flush cutting a stump and the recoil/gas tank is laying on the ground.

FYI The numbers on the bottles of Loc-tite are the approximate temperatures Fahrenheit at which the stuff will give up its grip.
