Last July, I moved to Medford, Oregon, and had to cancel a class at Portland Community College.
I noticed that Medford has virtually zilch for tree or landscape programs. So I sent an outline for a tree care class - community education - at Rogue Community College in the Grants Pass / Medford area.
The course was accepted and is scheduled for WINTER term, a few months away.
It will cover about 40% of the kind of content similar to the ISA study guide material. But this class will add some elements of landscape design, and a more in depth approach to soil and drainage.
So it's a cross between tree care and landscape technology material. 4 weeks of Mondays from 7 to 9 at night for $60.
It will be pro quality material - not just some homeowner class. If you know any tree companies or landscapers in the south Oregon area with employees that could benefit, tell them to check winter enrollment at RCC or to watch the web site for Rogue Community College online.
I hear they are checking into a grant to try and revive some landscape related credit classes in some kind of program.
It's a dry area for horticulture education down here, so any enrollment in these programs can assist reviving tree and landscape education at a county or region level in southern Oregon.
