where do you attache the micro pully to be used as a slack tender when climbing with a split tale. I am refering to the attachemnt point closest to the climber not the area below the hitch

Depends on the split tail used.


For the blakes/tautline, Ive always used a micro biner and cliped it to the same biner as the s-tail. See page 53/55 in the tree climbers companion.

For the prusik style tails, it has to go on the same biner. (Page 85)

I've found that a swivel dog-leash snap works really nice as a slack tender. The snap loop needs to be about 5/8" inside diameter. The one I use most of the time opens like pincers. If you get one with a spring loaded gate find the ones that work like a biner. Don't get the ones with a gate that slides down with a little knob on them.

The loop gets clipped on the split tail biner before the split tail goes on. This keeps the snap away from the gate of the biner.

This setup is cheaper [about $5], less complex and more compact.

It's true. I've only seen it done with a Blake's hitch, though. Can ya pull through with a pic by the end of the day, Butch?
