Hi, I'm crew lead for a small company in the Eastern townships (Quebec, Canada). My boss is currently writting up a quote for a customer for taking down 3 white pines.. These trees were previously crown cleaned by myself before the land owners built a house under them. They are easily 100 feet tall and over 2 feet in diameter. Unfortunatly construction has led them to die. So the job would be removal of the 3 and taking away the wood. My boss being more '' old school'' is not thinking about using a crane, myself on the other hand , I belieive that a crane will save us much labor. Here are my questions:

How to estimate the cost of crane vs a trafitional piece by piece removal?
What should be taken into consideration when selecting and hiring a crane operator ( company)?
For the climbers safety, what is considered a safe tie in to the crane, how should a piece be cut off safely ( direction of cut, communication with operator.?
That all the questions I can think of now, if you have any addtional info please share. I wanna do this the right way! Thanks!
