Milled some Paulownia wood with the 441. The trunks were a shade over 24" and the 441 ate it up.

Take a look at the big equipment in the background. The chipper burns around 800 gallons of diesel a day, this tree was lucky it was spared... until the mill showed up :msp_biggrin:

Mike the duck man was running the big gear and setting the logs any way he pleased. Stihldrivinman was keeping us out of harms way and having a good time slinging some of that mulch around just because he could

These slabs will be used for making duck decoys

How many decoys do you think you will get from that tree? What is special about the Paulownia wood? I've never heard of it.

Not sure exactly how many but probably about 2 dozen

The wood is light and soft, making it easy to carve. Paulownia is an invasive species in the U.S. I think its seed pods were used to cushion packages shipped from Asia. (I heard that somewhere and could be wrong.)

The best time to find them is in late spring when you can spot their purple flowers.

one of my favourite specimen trees here in the UK. also known to us as the foxglove tree. Paulownia tomentosa I believe :tongue2:

you mean..80 gal a day,right????:msp_biggrin:

Ha ha not a typo my friends

1200ish hp motor and on a long day, 14 hours or so, it will eat nearly 800 gallons. That is on the extreme side, however you get the idea.

80 gallons of diesel isn't even an appetizer for a big conveyor fed chipper like that.

groundup you do realize we are all expecting to see a photo of the duck decoy you made from the tree.

You'll be waiting a long time for that as I do not have the finesse for that task. One of guys in the pictures will be the carver, and I will post a pic of his finished product.

The slabs will need to dry for about a year before being cut into blocks and then the carving should begin.

It is possible as it can have a 1000hp engine which would burn on the order of 50 gal an hour so if you are working 16 hr days....

Right on :msp_wink:

Oxford is not too far from us, let me know if you ever need an extra saw.

Good deal. If you want to cut or run your mill some sometime let me know. I have been chopping everything into firewood as dad says he has too much lumber to store right now. This was the last load we sold.
