Learn to tune the saw by ear, any tach setting supplied by the manufacturer will be selected to comply with emission constraints and the longevity of the saw is not a main concern. Generally the saw will be running too lean and will self destruct when subjected to hard use. You want to find the sweet spot where the saw is running just on the lean side of too rich. The saw should blubber and sound rough (usually called 4-stroking) at full throttle out of the wood and run crisp and clean as soon as you stick it into the wood. The sweet spot can only be found with an educated ear, tach numbers are not a reliable way to get it.
