Okay so i have been milling with my echo cs-520 and a mini-mill setup for a year or so. It has been great with my 20in bar but i have wanted an upgrade. I got a 066 in trade of a couple odd jobs and was wondering if i could get buy using my mini-mill and a 24in bar on the big saw or will it not cut true because of the torque of the power head on the mill where it is only supported on one end.

I will buy or build a bigger mill this winter but was just curious about giving it a go.

thoughts ?

Thanks

Welcome to the 90cc group.

With a SHARP chain it should cut most wood like butter.

There are some pretty simple mills most peeps can bang together in a day or less. Disregard posts by BobL, he'll be having you build a Rolls Royce if you follow his excellent posts :)

If you've got the wood plan on getting a bigger bar, a good 066 w/ a muff mod should be able to handle 30" to 36" depending on the hardness of the wood.

Check out some threads on the 660. Here's one:

Check your muffler - even the older ones could use more exhaust area. Unless you have a DP muffler already. There are claims of 10% to 20% increase in power.

Granberg's official policy is to use the mini-mill with a bar no longer than 20", but I often use a 24" bar. Accuracy is OK for beams, but not as good as an Alaskan.

The power of the saw won't make much difference, just the length of the bar and the width of the cut.

Well i got in a little time this weekend. The 24"bar had no problems with the small log mill that i had been using on my cs-520. I forgot to take pics but i ended up with 14 boards 1.5" thick and they all came out real well. next i guess ill get a real rip chain and the cut will be even better.

:chainsaw: let the addiction begin
