I just watched an episode of modern marvels on history channel. They mentioned a lumber company in Washington. Dahlstrom (sp?) Lumber in Hoquiam Wa. I was wondering if this company is still going or not.

Yupp they are last I knew. They buy oversize wood on the cheap and make beams, ties, and such. Big wood doesn't bring a high price anymore because not many mills have big enough saws. The majority of big wood mills are Tacoma on north and for hauling on the west side of the peninsula Dahlstroms is a nice quick jaunt. They also buy wood that the other mills get but can't mill.

Nate,

I don't know max and min. I think they're in the Aberdeen phonebook. Hey gonna be in oly sat cuttin for my uncle. Wanna grab a beer later in the afternoon?

Wes

How big do they buy?

(market research, COR duties, due diligence, etc)

I know nothing of the Dahlstrom mill, but Sea-Sno in Snohomish reopened, they take some really big wood in there, think but don't quote me on this their band mill is over 6'. They may be a bit closer to Oly for ya (really probably about the same though?)

They said on that show that dahlstroms will take up to 5'. But thats what they say on that show. Hardly accurate. When they show a wheel loader and call it a dozer you have to go

I'll be wrenchin' all day Saturday -- a beer will be most welcome.

Sounds like a plan. I'll PM ya my number so we can coordinate.

North,

Heard they just re-opened. Looked it up. Sea-Sno is almost 20 miles closer. Lot of the big second growth wood from the Montesano City forest went to Buse. Tell ya what Weyco is paying a damn good price at their yard in Oly!
