I have just purchased a new Twister 12 from morbark and reviewing the lubrication schedule it states that all bearings are to be greased with one shot of grease every 40 hours except the Drum bearings are to be given one shot every 1000 hours! Are these some sort of sealed bearing. Even every 40 hours seems a bit light but 1000 hours is when I might be expecting to replace the drum bearings. If anyone can shed any light on this I would be most gratefull.

I will throw this one out just for you to compare. The main bearing on the flywheel on a bailer which turns a little bit faster than your drum gets greased every 100hrs you can take it from there. We as the mechainics always greased them at more like every 25hrs.

We are running two twisters and have only had one bearing issue in three years. We grease them up weekly. Not really sure what the hourly rate is, but we have had big time problems with every other aspect with those machines. Its always stupid stuff that you would never expect. We had a knife come lose one one and blow up. And a wheel hub blow out on another dropping the wheel in the interstate. Both the discharge chutes on our machines wont lock into position so they have to be tied down. We almost had a chute come off because the retainer bolts seared off, (One of our competitors had the same problem with the same machine model.) We constanlty have light and brake issues. We have had electrical problems with the Tommy switch, and the switch that shuts off the machine if you pull the retaining pin out of the drum cover. I maintain these chippers really well but there is always something that seems to happen. Personally Im not a big fan of a Morbark machine and have been trying to get the boss to buy Vermeers, but the Twisters are paid off and he is to cheap to buy a good chipper. If you are up in Cheyenne Im guessing you got your Morbark from a dealer in Denver. (not gonna mention the name, but they are in Denver off Broadway Ave.) Thats where we get our machines. Personally Im not impressed with the twisters. But since I dont sign the paychecks or own the machinery I dont have much choice in what I have to work with. If you have any other questions drop me a line.
