I'm brand new here and looking for advise from the "experts". I'm looking at 2 different chippers. 1.) Is a 2000 Morbark Model 13 w/670 hrs. on it. JD Diesel. Owned by a Landscape business, in Very Good Condition and appears to be very well maintained. Asking $18,000.00
2.) Is a 2005 Salsco Model 813XT with a 83hp. Cat Diesel. This one has about 350 hrs on it, looks like new and also appears to have been very well maintained. Asking $16,000.00
Both prices, like anything are negotiable.
I know I'm not really comparing Apples to Apples here. The Morbark is a much bigger machine and drum vs. disc. The Salsco is large enough for the work that I do and I like that is it 5 years newer, however I know that the Morbarks are "tried and true" machines and don't know much about Salsco other than it is made right here in my home state.
My thought is resale on the machine. 5-10 years down the road. Seems like a big Morbark (if maintained) is going to hold it's value a lot better than a smaller machine of any make.
Any opinions? and what about the prices, do they seem pretty acurate? Remember, I'm in CT so if someone has one in Oregon for less, it's not gonna do me much good.
