I think it is very valuable when it is edged and kiln dried. It is actually pretty easy to work with and not super heavy the stuff I have milled. Like cedar not really pleasant sawdust to work with though. Your boards and logs look like they are pretty clear or free of knots. I see what appears to be a jug of bar oil, did all that sawdust come from making the boards in the lower picture.

Yep, lot of saw dust. It's one of the softer woods that I've milled. I like crotch pieces and knots to give it more figure. These came off my friends farm and he wants to make a table top with them, Joe.

Here's the rest of it. He wanted a mantle, so I was just able to get a 4 1/2" X 11" X 7' beam that might fit his fire place, A bunch of short boards for shelves. We found a local mill that will kiln dry every thing. He's supposed to be very reasonable, we'll see, Joe.

IMG_20171214_203555.jpg had more fun making 2 of these mantles.. 9 foot long, upstairs and downstairs.. Mostly tablesaw work.. Not so much waste. Unless black walnut runs at less than 5 percent moisture, if ya use big long wide pieces. You'll have an airplane propeller above your fireplace.. These are both vaneered.. About 3/32 nd ofcan inch
